...Morning Area Forecast Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 314 AM EDT Sun Aug 10 2025

Key Messages:

    - Shower coverage will be on the increase today and Monday as
deeper moisture pushes westward into the forecast area.

    - Only isolated thunderstorms are expected, though any showers
and isolated thunderstorms could produce locally heavy
      rainfall.

While the end is approaching for our anomalous early August pattern
characterized by easterly flow and cooler than normal temperatures,
it will linger today into Monday. The most noticeable change in the
short term will be an increase in shower coverage this afternoon and
evening. These increased PoPs, particularly for areas south and east
of the I-85 corridor, are courtesy of a weak wave/inverted trough
along the Georgia/South Carolina coastline that will push deeper
moisture inland into our area. Scattered to numerous diurnally-
enhanced showers will develop within this airmass characterized by
elevated PWATs over 2-2.25". Instability will be limited (MUCAPE
<1000 J/kg), so only isolated thunderstorm potential is expected;
however, given the deep moisture in place, locally heavy rainfall
will be possible, particularly in eastern and southeastern counties.
Highs this afternoon will again run several degrees below normal
courtesy of mostly cloudy skies and showers.

Some scattered showers are likely to linger tonight into Monday
morning, mainly across eastern Georgia. PoPs will then ramp up even
more appreciably on Monday as the slug of tropical moisture advances
farther westward into the forecast area. Again, while relatively
limited instability (though perhaps slightly higher than today) will
prevent strong/severe thunderstorm concerns, locally heavy rainfall
will remain possible. No widespread flash flooding concerns are
anticipated, but these locally higher rainfall totals could lead to
a few instances of nuisance/street flooding. A Marginal Risk for
Excessive Rainfall covers roughly the southeast half of the CWA to
highlight this limited risk.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 314 AM EDT Sun Aug 10 2025

Key Messages:

    - Daily afternoon/evening thunderstorm chances through next week
      (highest chances Wednesday).

    - Temps returning to normal by mid to late week.

Discussion:

Much of the long term will be focused on the moist airmass in place
that will lead to temps returning to normal by mid to late week and
daily afternoon/evening shower/thunderstorm chances into the
weekend. Starting off the long term at Tuesday, we`ll see upper
level ridging over the eastern Gulf with a trough to our west over
the plains. Rich southwesterly flow over Georgia with small vort
maxes pushing into the area will result in enough energy to see rain
chances Tuesday in the 60-70% range for much of the area. By
Wednesday we`ll see the trough begin to dampen as it pushes
eastward, ultimately staying north of the area. As it approaches
though the interaction zone between this troughing and the ridging
over the gulf will provide an emphasis for increased rain chances
especially in north Georgia closer to the troughing. Into the end of
the week and weekend, will see again the ridging and sfc high
pressure be the main pattern at play with vort maxes pushing into
the area resulting in lower (but not nonexistent) rain chances (30-
40%). Temps as a result of this SW flow with the moist tropical
airmass are forecasted to reach into the upper 80s to low 90s which
is more normal for this time of year.

to trend toward MVFR by 10-12Z with some potential for patchy
IFR through 14Z. MVFR cigs will likely persist into midday before
improvement into low-end VFR after 18-20Z. Sct SHRA are possible
primarily from 18-24Z with a low chance for iso TSRA, primarily at
MCN. MVFR to potentially IFR cigs are more likely to return after
01-03Z Monday. Winds remain E at 6-12 kts.
